About Us

Blacksburg Elementary School is a Title I school that serves approximately 360 students in grades 3 through 5.

Blacksburg Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills and Life and Career Characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing students with a learning environment that meets their unique physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs. The staff of BES is committed to the belief that all students can experience success, and we strive for this in the areas of academics, citizenship, service and the arts. BES offers opportunities to students through classroom instructional time along with enrichment activities that include National Junior Beta Club, Student Council, Honors Chorus and Singing Wildcats, Too Good for Drugs, BES Run Club, Character Education, Robotics Team, Camp Giorno, First Tee, and Know(2). To ensure that we remain current as educators, staff members participate in various learning opportunities throughout the year to help better prepare them for the ever-changing needs of their students. A staff focus on state standards, differentiation, project-based learning, engagement, rigor, Read to Succeed, and data analysis occurred throughout the year. The Profile of the South Carolina Graduate guides us in our endeavors to cultivate students that can be successful. Our guidance counselor teaches the character education program "Core Essentials" sponsored by Chic-fil-A. Our students show growth in all areas of this program throughout the school year whether it be from offering an appropriate hand shake to encouraging others. They continuously exhibit their compassion for helping others as they gather items and monies that are donated to Relay for Life, Jump Rope for Heart, Iron City Ministries, Cherokee County Humane Society, and summer feeding program. At BES, technology plays an important role in daily classroom instruction where teachers utilize the district implemented one to one laptop program to enrich student learning. Teachers remain current on technology use through monthly staff development opportunities provided by a district technology instructor. Our SIC and administration work to provide incentives for students and staff such as providing funding for grade level field trips, a special lunch for our staff during Teacher Appreciate Week, or upgrading our facilities. Our Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Monica Phillips and Support Staff of the Year is Mr. Stroup Parris. All of our teachers are highly qualified with current South Carolina certification.

Rita Martin, Principal (2017-2018)

Our school theme this year continues with “Teamwork to Make the Dream Work”. We are implementing a more active PTO and strongly encourage all parents to join and participate in not only in school sponsored activities, but in giving feedback in school decision making to ensure that we have active lines of communication between home and school. Our staff development this year will be focused on providing unique and differentiated learning opportunities for all students; from PBL (Project Based Learning) to One-to-One learning to Small Group instruction. We will continue to look at ways to offer school enrichment activities for students during and after school hours that reach the whole child and encourage a deepened interest at being a life-long learning.

Shelton Clinton, Principal (2018-2019)
